TennCare is Tennessee’s expanded Medicaid program that provides health care coverage for approximately 1.2 million Tennesseans.

TennCare is a Medicaid program that operates within the rules and guidelines of Medicaid set by the federal government. It’s an expanded Medicaid program because TennCare covers more people and offers more benefits than a traditional Medicaid program.

TennCare contracts with Managed Care Organizations (or health plans) to manage its members’ health care.
